Random SPW reviews: No. 1 Contender Match: Trexxus vs The Statement (2013)
This was the earliest match between the two that I can find on the SPW YouTube channel.
PROVE
23 November 2013
The alignments are clear as Trexxus and Statement comes out to cheers and boos respectively. Statement is in full heelish mode, gyrating his hips and doing jerking taunts to the crowd.
Trexxus offers a handshake and they start to lock-up, with Trexxus’ strength dominating. Statement outsmarts him by focusing his attacks on Trexxus’ knee. Trexxus counters with a snap scoop powerslam and a pin but Statement kicks out at two. Some groundwork follows before a elevated snapmare puts the advantage back to Statement. Nice fameasser by Statement at 6:31 followed by a pin but Trexxus kicks out at two. Statement puts Trexxus in a modified abdominal stretch (you can really see the size difference here). Trexxus fights back but Statement counters into a reverse DDT. Trexxus finally makes a comeback with an electric chair drop. He goes for a running powerslam but Statement counters with a rana while hanging from the ropes, putting Trexxus out of the ring. He then hits a crossbody from the apron then a post-assisted tornado cutter at 9:20. Back in the ring both starts to trade chops before Trexxus performs some sort of a Bossman slam for a two count. Statement counters and does a seated senton from the top rope and then his signature satellite DDT 11:46. He teases a piledriver but Trexxus puts him onto the top turnbuckle. Statement counters a superplex into a powerbomb for a close two count. He takes too much time going into the top rope as Trexxus does a sick-looking scoop slam at 13:50. Trexxus goes for the powerbomb but Statement counters into a wheelbarrow bulldog. He goes for the ropes but Trexxus hits his powerbomb finisher outta nowhere for the win.
Trexxus defeats ‘The Statement’ Andruew Tang at 14:51 via pin [***]
A good match and a taste of what both can offer in years to come. Trexxus looked kinda green, relying on a simple move set while Andruew carried the match, with his experience already very apparent back then. When Statement first targeted Trexxus’ knee I thought it would be the main theme of the match, but it came to nothing—it would be better if Trexxus had sell the knee injury throughout the match. The finish was very abrupt, more of a fluky win by Trexxus.
That’s all for now, thanks for reading!
