WWE Weekly Thoughts 17.1.19

I’ll be starting this weekly series to keep the site more active in between the local wrestling events. This will not be show recaps, but rather some thoughts I had while watching them.

WWE Raw 14.1.19

  • It dawned on me that Corbin has improved significantly in his mike work — his stint as the acting Raw GM really paid off. I actually have already forgotten his time as the Lone Wolf which kinda shows his versatility.
  • I thought it was very off to have Rollins and Ambrose to team up at times — sometimes face and heel team up to fight a common enemy but they are in a blood feud supposedly, which should matter more than the Intercontinental belt.
  • Speaking about the Intercontinental belt, it’s starting to go back to the merry-go-round stage a couple of years back, which is not doing any favours to it’s prestige. Anyway Lashley needs the belt the most out the three, so I hope he gets a credible lengthy run with it.
  • I’m ok with the ladies Tag Team belts design — I still prefer belts to be in black but let’s see how it looks on the wrestlers. I remember hating the Universal belt when it was first shown but it looked good when I saw it in person.

WWE Smackdown Live 15.1.19

  • I found it funny that when Mandy Rose took off her robes it was no less revealing than her wrestler outfit.
  • They shortened El Idolo’s name to just “Andrade”, which kinda takes away the aura compared to how Zelina Vega announces his full name. Imagine if they had shortened Stone Cold Steve Austin to just Steve.
  • Wow, what a match between Andrade and Rey Mysterio, working a energetic fast-paced match with quite a number of creative counters. It is a pity they had it on TV rather than on a PPV though. Also full credits to Zelina Vega who was so in character that the camera had to pan to her at times.

That’s all for now, thanks for reading!
