WWE Weekly Thoughts 31.1.19

Here we go again, with another round of weekly thoughts!

WWE Raw 28.1.19

  • A great promo by Dean Ambrose. Like I mentioned in previous posts he has rehabilitated his character with good promos, but with his contract situation, is it too little too late? If he is indeed leaving, I hope he gets a good sendoff with a big match at WrestleMania.
  • Michael Cole is the play-by-play commentator, but he does have moments where he will join in with the banter. I loved how he teased about Corey Graves attending Baron Corbin’s wedding when Graves annoyingly kept praising Corbin during his match with Kurt Angle.
  • I noticed this during the Rumble, that Jeff Jarrett throws great-looking punches. I must say the old-timers really have their fundamentals done right (Ric Flair mentioned in his documentary about practicing hitting a string as hard as he can for three years, until it didn’t move), something the newer guys should take note.
  • It was nice to see Bayley from being the one supposedly weak in promo to the one coming out to save Ronda’s promo. Compared to last year (that horrendous feud with Alexa Bliss) she now has a self-assured confident vibe about her, and has modified her character slightly (still the lovable face, but can go intense if need to).

WWE Smackdown Live 29.1.19

  • First it was Elias, not it is Rusev —I really dislike the rapid face/heel turns which doesn’t make sense from characterisation point of view (see Big Show). Both of them are very popular, so WWE shouldn’t screw over themselves.
  • I’m digging the new ‘eco-friendly’ WWE Championship belt —if they do sell it I hope it’s not like $800 like the leather replica belts.
  • What an epic promo by Samoa Joe, burning multiple wrestlers in under one minute. When he is done with wrestling he has easily transit into commentary or become a manager.

That’s all for now, thanks for reading!
