SPW Boiling Point Preview

It’s the first SPW PPV of 2019, where they are bringing the show back to the Chinese Clan Association, where I attended my first event 10 shows ago. For some reason the atmosphere is the best there, to me it’s sort of like our very own Madison Square Garden. So let’s go!

Luna Inez vs Selina: Both had a bad showing in the last show, due to their nerves and inexperience —this match presents an opportunity for them to show us how they have improved since then. As a fan supporting local wrestling, which at the moment are lacking female talent, I really do hope they come prepared to wow us on the night.

Winner: Both, by putting on a good performance for us!

Aiden Rex vs Shaukat: A match of two styles, with Aiden Rex’s acrobatic fast-paced game against Shaukat’s hard-hitting strikes. I first saw Shaukat in person back in 2016’s WrestlingCity, and he has since evolved tremendously based on his MyPW matches I saw on Youtube. Judging from his recent match with Emman ‘The Kid’, I believe this match will follow a similar format, with Aiden playing the resilient underdog against him.

Winner: Aiden Rex

Arsenal Affi & Blue Nova vs AJ Pyro & Serigala: It’s great to see Affi returning, his unique blend of power, technique and striking ability have been missed in local scene recently. As for Blue Nova, it will be the second time I will see him after his debut back almost a year ago in the Triple Thrill Series: Dragongate VS SPW, which was kinda underwhelming (in the lucha sense). I have not heard of AJ Pyro & Serigala, who are billed as fearsome power-based wrestlers, so my prediction is more of guesswork.

Winner: Arsenal Affi & Blue Nova

P-Nutz vs Judas: One half of Bad Company, P-Nutz will be in singles action with Judas, who has performed admirably in the shows I’ve attended. The thing I like about Bad Company is that both wrestlers insert subtle humorous elements (or maybe it’s just me) into their matches, despite their brutal power-based moves. It will be interesting to see the layout, whether P-Nutz’s pace will be affected without the benefit of tag breaks in between. With both into no frills hard-hitting action, this has the potential to be a sleeper hit.

Winner: P-Nutz

Power Warrior & Carl Hella & Destroyer Dharma vs Mighty Dragon Family: The only match with long-term storytelling, with the years-old feud finally leading GM Carl Hella to fire Eurasian Dragon and Jane Foo. Mighty Mighty confronted the GM which resulted in a severe beating by the returning Destroyer Dharma, which has seemingly allied himself with the authority. The match is advertised as a 6-man tag, so I wonder who will be the third person to stand by Mighty Mighty and Big Good Jack? Maybe… Black Arrow? Expect the bad guys to get their comeuppance.

Winner: Mighty Dragon Family

The Horrors vs Feral Alliance: As I’ve mentioned before, Dr Gore and Da Butcherman has really grown as a tag team in the past year or so, with their chemistry very apparent, making me a fan and hoping them to be rewarded with the tag team titles soon. A high profile victory over Feral Alliance, which is the current de-facto faction in MyPW (check out their high-budget promo) would cement them as one of the top tag teams in Singapore.

Winner: The Horrors

Southeast Asia Championship match: Lokomotiv (c) vs The Statement vs Trexxus: Locomotive has held the belt close to a year, which I felt having SPW’s top championship belt away for such an extended period has affected their shows from a storyline perspective —it has left Statement and Trexxus with no particular programmes except to engage in exhibition matches with overseas stars. The two have made a strategic agreement to team up against the Russian, but expect some backstabbing. With three seasoned veterans, I’m sure it will be a banger. It’s about damn time the title returns to our shores!

Winner: The Statement

That’s all for now, thanks for reading!
